User's Background Information

I have been through a lot in the last 3 years. During which, I've had time to think, to gain perspective, to understand what I truly want from life. Life is short, why not work towards happiness? I am grateful for my wonderful family and friends. I believe their support and love help guide me towards being a better person. We can't do it alone.

Opinions Expressed by User for the following Questions

What is your opinion on God ? religion ?

I was raised in a secular home. My parents were raised Jewish, but with no ties to the actual religious aspects. We did not attend synagogue. I did not have a Bat Mitzvah. My Jewish education was non-existent. As an adult, I realized that I was seeking something. What is right? What is wrong? During this time, I started to understand the meaning of the word God. I believe that God is Light. It is the little voice in our heads that always tells us which way to go. I'm not talking about the loud one that says, "I know that's not good for you, but do it anyway!" God is the inner voice of love, respect, kindness, honesty. God reminds us to love ourselves and the people around us. We have all these things inside of us, we just have to listen. Rumi said it best. “Everything in the universe is within you. Ask all from yourself.” As for religion, I believe that it serves a very important purpose. It creates community and rules to live by. The problems occur when people lose sight of the morals and values and act on greed, pride and closed-mindedness. We are one. And that one is God.

What is your opinion on love ? sex ? marriage ?

I recently came upon a definition of love that truly summed up my feelings on the word. I found it in the book The Road Less Traveled by M. Scott Peck. He defines love as, "the will to extend one's self for the purpose of nurturing one's own or another's spiritual growth." He also speaks about the choice involved in love and the act of loving. Love doesn't just happen. We choose to love or not to love. I am a lucky person. I was raised in a loving home with loving parents and sibling. I have fallen in love more than once and have been gifted with the most beautiful friends a person can have. I believe that due to my experiences, I see the world through the eyes of love. I also believe that people are inherently loving and they stray from the path because of wounds inflicted as children (or adults). Sex can be the most beautiful act of love. It can also be a hedonistic playground. Through sex, you can find God. Through sex, you can also go to the depths of your darkness. It can be a path to light or an extremely addictive drug. Marriage is a dated institution. Even though, I could imagine getting married someday. I honestly don't think too much about it. People get married or they don't. They also get divorced. But, it is neither good or bad. Just lessons on the path.

Are you happy ? Why or why not? How do you think a person can be happy ?

I consider myself a happy person. Don't get me wrong. I know the meaning of the word misery as well. I also know that happiness and sadness are part of the same concept. The deeper the sorrow you feel, the more space there is for happiness. I am grateful to be alive. Every morning I wake up and say, "Thank you." When we are aware of how lucky we are to breath and move and talk and live, then we understand happiness. I think people can achieve happiness when they stop looking outside of themselves. Things are always changing. There are is always something that is going to bring you pleasure or pain. If you start loving yourself, taking care of your mind and body, creating necessary boundaries and not caring to much about other people's opinions, then happiness will follow. It seems to be working for me.

If you think you are wealthy ? what made you this wealth ? if you are not wealthy, what kept you back ?

I am a millionaire in spiritual wealth. Money has never really been a priority for me. I make enough to eat, live and not to worry about not having money. I believe that the more money you have, the more stress you have. Money can truly make people crazy and greedy. I would much rather live a simple life, then to jump into the mess that is wealth.

What is your opinion on death ?

Death is part of life. We all die in the end. Some earlier than others. People are terrified of death, yet they don't live their lives to the fullest. I understand, because I spent years being stuck in my own stresses and worries. Then, I was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Death and I became friends. I looked into his face daily and during that time, I started to understand that every day I am alive is precious. If I am happy and fulfilled, death can no longer scare me. I also believe that there is no end. It is only a new beginning. There is life after death. I just don't know much about it.

What do you think is the most efficient way to make money ?

I haven't figured it out yet! But I do believe that if you work with passion and dedication, the money becomes less important and you feel more fulfilled on daily basis.

What is THE MOST important thing to you in your life ? Why ?

The most important thing in my life is my health, both physically and mentally. When I am strong and healthy, I can give to others. I can keep my heart open. I can help make the world a bit kinder, a bit happier.

If you had to pass on advise to your kids about how to live life, what would that be ?

I would share the following choice bits of advice to my future children. I wish I had heard this when I was young! - Your feelings are important. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. - If something doesn't feel right, it isn't right. - You are never alone. - Discipline and hard work lead to a fulfilling life. - Be yourself. You are perfect just the way you are.

Is a person in control of his/her destiny ? Why or why not ?

Yes and no. We always have a choice. We can listen to our intuition, the voice that tells us the "right" thing to do. Or we can listen to our instinct, which tells us about the more pleasurable route. Now, whether the choice is already made, I don't know. I don't think it matters, as long as you know you have a choice.

Do you think it would be helpful for a person to read what you have said ? Why or why not ?

I hope so. The words I've shared come from the things I've experienced in my life. I'm not perfect, no one is. But we are all capable of achieving happiness and fulfillment. We just have to take the first step.
