Opinions Expressed by User for the following Questions

What is your opinion on God ? religion ?

I believe in a Supra-natural entity most commonly referred to as God. I believe religion is tied up with spiritually which has been with mankind from our earliest beginnings. I also believe it can be abused, and is abused, mostly for personal, political gain - as it has been possbily since it's earliest beginning. At it's most basic, religion in it's positive form provides a constant framework of values, norms etc for society to live by.

What is your opinion on love ? sex ? marriage ?

Love, sex & marriage in a healthy situation are all intwined. Although divorced for many years, I do believe in marriage. Which is more important? All have a value and when existing together are, as a very happily married friend said to me, like swinging from chandeliers ….. Love is an emotion which can grow as the relationship deepens. Sex in time does dissipate - so my 70+ year old friends tell me (each of them was very active sexually until they reached their mid-70's) Sex is a very real aspect of a healthy relationship.

Are you happy ? Why or why not? How do you think a person can be happy ?

I am not very happy. I live in an isolated world with almost no prospects of improving - biggest hinderance is my lack of Hebrew skills. This prevents me from living a full life here in Israel.

If you think you are wealthy ? what made you this wealth ? if you are not wealthy, what kept you back ?

Very Wealthy - not in financial sense. I am not particularly competitive. I value a quality of life. So when I have been offered a very well paid job - but it means I am on the road in bumper to bumper traffic for over an hour each way, and may entail working 10 - 12 hour days, I have declined this. Being able to participate in activities which enrich me, feed me, allow me to spend time with family& friends and gives me my personal time is, to me, more valuable than owning a bigger house, driving a newer car, going on overseas holidays etc. That is my compromise in this life.

What is your opinion on death ?

Only thing that is guaranteed in this world. I do not fear it. When it happens I hope it will be lightening quick and painless. Death is most difficult for those left behind. As I have not yet met in flesh, anyone who has truly died, it is difficult to know what does happen - physically, emotionally, spiritually.

What do you think is the most efficient way to make money ?

NO idea. Some people are better at answering this question than I. Some gurus say less hard work, more hard thinking, others say hard work pays off. I think many factors play out here. Some is financial suss (whether innate, taught or learnt) some is good/bad luck (I have a former multimillionaire friend who has lost all his fortunes over the past 2 years - do to no fault of his own. He is a very very businessman)

What is THE MOST important thing to you in your life ? Why ?

My children. Each one of them in their own way is so special. They are all doing so well with their lives, each doing what he needs to do for himself. To LIVE. To feel life - in all it's hurly burly traverses. Without LIVING why bother breathing? LIVING encompasses doing activities that one enjoys, being with people whom one enjoys, having a joire de vire and feeling life to it's fullest in all the facets of life.

If you had to pass on advise to your kids about how to live life, what would that be ?

Be who you are, what is inside you, strive to improve on yourself, do not compare yourself to others only to yourself, be careful of others - not to the point where you are damaged, take opportunities as they come to you. Follow a value system (for me this is Torah - the Torah of dati leumi/modern orthodox, not of the haredi, Chassid etc). Question, look beyond the superficial to what is the driving factor. Blind faith is like driving a car on the highway blindfolded - whether faith be the faith of a business enterprise or other form. Question. My children have all dyed their hair all colours of the rainbow, piereced various body parts (one at a time) and are all religious - religious not only by upbringing, as adults they are religious by choice Most of all, do not do anything that will damage you permanently

Is a person in control of his/her destiny ? Why or why not ?

Yes and no. There are parts of our nature & character that are innate, some aspects we can modify or change, others no. To me life is a combination of opportunities (destiny/karma?), ability to see oportunites for what they are (control). Yes, some people do have 'better luck' than others - some have been born to better parents etc.

Do you think it would be helpful for a person to read what you have said ? Why or why not ?

Yes. If for nothing else, being exposed to a viewpoint other than your existing one, should open a new window for you to look through. Conversely, no. When one tells another only their opinion is Right, or is the only opinion/viewpoint that matters. That is not helpful.
